Awards and Financial Aid

Upper-Year Bursaries and Awards

Faculty of Science

3M Canada Inc. Bursaries

Four bursaries, valued at $500 each, are awarded as follows: one to an Engineering student and the remaining three to students in either Business, Science, or Computer Science-related fields.

Brystra Award in Science and Business

An award, valued at up to $500, is awarded annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in the Science and Business program in the Faculty of Science who has achieved a minimum overall average of 75% and who has a demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students in Year Three or Four of the program. In the event there are no eligible students in third or fourth year, the award will be offered to the most suitable candidate in Year Two or Year One. Interested students will apply on a University of Waterloo Bursary/Award Application Form. This fund is made possible by a donation from Dr. Thomas A. Bryant and Dr. Robin Reenstra-Bryant.

Dr. Jack Carlson Memorial Award

This fund has been established in memory of Dr. Jack Carlson by his family, and has been named in his honour. The award, valued at approximately $1,000, will provide assistance to a full-time undergraduate third- or fourth-year student who has achieved academic excellence and who is enrolled in a Biology program in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo. Preference will be given to students enrolled in one or more human physiology courses. Interested students who have achieved a minimum overall average of 75% and who have financial need are invited to submit an application by October 15th.

Physics Alumni Award

A fund has been established by UW alumni to provide financial assistance to students in Physics or Physics and Business. Depending on funds available, awards valued at $500 or more may be provided to students in second year or above who have a strong academic record and a demonstrated financial need. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.

School of Optometry Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund

The School of Optometry Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund makes available funds to assist academically qualified students experiencing financial difficulties. The fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the Province of Ontario. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.
