Sameer Ahuja Perseverance Award
This award, valued at up to $2,000, has been established by family in honour of Sameer Ahuja (1980 - 2004) to recognize and provide financial assistance to a student who is persevering to obtain a degree while facing the challenges of a severe chronic medical condition and/or a physical disability. Sameer was an exceptional young man who was determined to persevere with his studies despite a life threatening illness which created numerous physical challenges for him. Interested undergraduate students in any Faculty who have obtained a minimum overall average of 65% and who have a demonstrated financial need are invited to submit an application by October 31st.
Jerzy W. Anders Memorial Award
A $150 award has been established in memory of Jerzy Anders, a graduate of the University of Waterloo. The award is given to mature individuals who were forced to interrupt their university education due to financial difficulties or family obligations and are experiencing financial hardship upon re-entering the academic world. Mature students experiencing financial difficulties should include a letter detailing their circumstances along with the bursary application form.
Barkley's of Avonmore Bursary
One bursary is awarded annually to a student from a Third World Country. International students must complete a bursary application form.
Stella Margaret Callfas Bursary
Bursaries are available to undergraduate students who are experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the responsibilities associated with being a sole-support parent, with preference to female students. Interested full- or part-time students enrolled in Year One or above who are studying towards a degree or diploma and who have a minimum overall average of 72% or above may apply. This bursary is made possible by a gift from William F. Goetz in memory of his mother, Stella Margaret Callfas. Interested undergraduate students should apply using the University of Waterloo Undergraduate Bursary Application.
Canadian Federation of University Women – Kitchener-Waterloo Bursaries
The Canadian Federation of University Women has established a bursary fund at the University of Waterloo to assist one or more women, studying full-time in second-, third-, or fourth-year who have attained second class standing and are in need of financial assistance. Preference will be given to women not holding tuition scholarships. Mature female students meeting these requirements are encouraged to apply.
Canadian Federation of University Women – Kitchener-Waterloo Part-Time Bursaries
A limited bursary fund has been established for mature female students who are studying on a part-time basis. Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program, have successfully completed at least two half-credit University of Waterloo courses, and be working toward an undergraduate degree through part-time studies. An application form as well as an explanation regarding financial need must be submitted.
Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University Award
The Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has established an award for University of Waterloo students who are approved to participate in the study abroad program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem or the Rothberg International School, and who have demonstrated financial need. Undergraduate and graduate students in all Faculties and plans, who are in good academic standing, are invited to apply. Candidates must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents, and have lived in Ontario for the entire 12-month period prior to beginning their post-secondary education. The application deadline is February 28th each year.
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Award
One or more awards, valued at $1,000 each, have been established by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce to assist students in financial need. Full-time undergraduates in any Faculty who have maintained a minimum overall average of 75% and who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate leadership ability as shown through on-campus or community extracurricular activities. Interested students will apply on an undergraduate bursary application.
JR Coutts International Experience Bursaries
Several bursaries, valued up to $1,500 each, are available each year for undergraduate students in any Faculty who wish to participate in an international work or study experience, who have a financial need, and who are in good academic standing. Interested students should apply by March 31st each year.
Ross & Doris Dixon Bursary for Students With Disabilities
One or more bursaries, valued up to $2,000, are awarded annually to students with disabilities who are experiencing financial difficulties and are studying on a full- or part-time basis in a degree status or non-degree status program. A minimum overall academic average of 70% is required. Applicants should apply on the general Undergraduate Bursary/Award Application, indicate their eligibility for assistance from this source in their covering letter and attach appropriate documentation outlining their disability or indicate that they have documentation on file at the Office for Persons with Disabilities.
Ron Eydt Travel Award
Undergraduate students who participate in one of the approved full-time exchange programs between the University of Waterloo and other universities may be eligible for financial assistance through the Ron Eydt Travel Award. Students must apply in the term preceding their departure. Students must have demonstrated University of Waterloo student leadership and campus involvement, have maintained a minimum B overall average, and must demonstrate financial need. A portion of the funds is restricted to students who have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.
Federation of Students – UW Bursary
Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties, maintaining a B average, and who are active in campus student organizations.
Foreign Student Bursary
A $100 bursary has been established by the Committee for Emergency Relief for Foreign Students. Foreign students experiencing financial difficulties should complete the bursary application.
K.D. Fryer – F.A.S.S. Award
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Kenneth D. Fryer, one of the founders and long time supporters of the F.A.S.S. theatre company. Funds are available to full- and part-time students at any level in any discipline offered by the University of Waterloo. A minimum overall average of 60% will be required of the applicants and financial need, as determined by the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office, will be the basis for awarding these funds.
J.G. Hagey Alumni Bursary
In memory of J.G. Hagey, President Emeritus of the University, and in recognition of his significant contributions to postsecondary education, the University of Waterloo Alumni has established a bursary fund. Several bursaries, to a maximum of $200 each, are awarded annually to students showing financial need. All students attaining a 60% or equivalent standing in their previous academic years are eligible to apply.
Harrison International Experience Award
An award has been established by UW alumna Judith Harrison and her husband Gary. Full-time students in any program who are qualified to participate in one of the University of Waterloo's approved international exchange or study abroad programs are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on demonstrated financial need and leadership ability as evidenced by involvement in on-campus and community extracurricular activities. One month preceding the exchange/study abroad program, candidates should apply on a University of Waterloo Undergraduate Bursary/Award Application form and supply official written confirmation of their participation. Candidates must be Canadian citizens who have lived in Ontario during the entire 12-month period prior to beginning their post-secondary education.
Nona and William Heaslip Upper-Year Awards
Two awards, valued at $15,000 per year for up to three years, are awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled in Year Two at the University of Waterloo who have high academic achievement in Year One and demonstrated financial need. Selected students will be invited to apply following completion of the 1B study term. Recipients will receive $15,000 in Year Two, payable in instalments of $7,500 in each of 2A and 2B. Additional payments of $7,500 will be awarded in 3A, 3B, 4A, and 4B, provided an overall average of 70% is maintained. All payments are subject to enrolment in full-time studies with a full course load (normally 2.5 units per term). This fund is made possible by a donation from Nona and William Heaslip.
Bernice MacCallum Hilliard Bursaries
Two bursaries will be given annually to mature, female undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Waterloo who are in need of financial assistance; one, valued at $4,000 for a full-time student and one valued at $500 for a part-time student.
International Experience Bursary
A bursary fund has been established honouring Peter Hopkins, former Associate Provost, Student Affairs, upon his retirement from the University of Waterloo. The bursary will provide financial assistance to full-time students who are academically qualified for participation in one of the University of Waterloo's approved international exchange or study abroad programs, and who have demonstrated financial need. One month preceding the exchange/study abroad program, candidates should apply on a University of Waterloo Undergraduate Bursary/Award Application form and supply official written confirmation of their participation. Candidates must have lived in Ontario during the entire 12-month period prior to beginning their post-secondary education.
Fred Kelly Bursary
In memory of Fred Kelly, General Manager for the Federation of Students, the Federation has established a bursary fund. Bursaries may be awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have attained an overall academic average of 65%.
Hildegard Marsden Bursary Fund
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Hildegard Marsden, Dean of Women for more than 20 years, for her service to students and the University of Waterloo community at-large. This award is for students in third- or fourth-year of their degree program who demonstrate financial need, and is given in the Winter term. Preference will be given to female applicants.
Mature Student Services Bursary
Mature undergraduate students who are studying on campus on a part-time basis and who are encountering financial difficulties are invited to apply. To be considered, applicants must be registered in a degree program and must be in good standing. Interested students should apply early in the term. This fund is made possible through the kind support of friends of the Mature Student Services Office.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare Paul D. Mitchell Bursary
Bursaries valued at $1,000 each have been established by McNeil Consumer Healthcare and by friends and colleagues of Paul D. Mitchell to assist students in financial need. Full-time undergraduates in any Faculty who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario during the entire 12-month period immediately prior to beginning their post-secondary education. Interested students will apply on a University of Waterloo Bursary/Award Application form.
Montgomery-Graham Award for African Students
This award, valued at $1,000, has been established by Hulene Montgomery and Michael Graham to support African students of the University of Waterloo who intend to apply their education to the benefit of the continent from which they come. Interested students are invited to apply by October 15 each year.
NCR Waterloo Student Opportunity Fund
Several awards, valued at $1,000 each, have been established by NCR Waterloo to assist full-time undergraduate students with a minimum B+ average who are experiencing financial difficulty. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership ability as evidenced by involvement in extracurricular activities either at the University or within the community. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education. Interested candidates will apply on a University of Waterloo Bursary/Award Application form.
Ira G. Needles Memorial Bursary Fund
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Ira George Needles, one of the founding fathers of the University of Waterloo, Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1956 to 1966 when he was named Chancellor. Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties and who have maintained a B average.
Neufeld-Oberle Memorial Award
This fund has been established in memory of Henry Neufeld and Thomas Oberle by their children to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who participate in an international exchange program offered by the University of Waterloo, or the university colleges, who have demonstrated financial need. Awards vary in value from $500 to $2500. Interested students will apply using the University of Waterloo Bursary Application by March 31st.
Ottawa-UW Alumni Bursary
One or more bursaries, valued at a minimum of $500 each, are available to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in first-, second-, third-, or fourth-year in any Faculty who have a financial need and a minimum overall average of 65%. Eligible students must have a home address in the Ottawa area, including the counties of Frontenac, Ottawa-Carleton, Prescott & Russell, and Renfrew. This fund has been established and is supported by UW alumni residing in the Ottawa area.
Abraham Rosenberg Memorial Bursary
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Abraham Rosenberg, a former member of University of Waterloo Board of Governors.
Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited Award Fund
Several awards, valued at a minimum of $500 each, are available to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties and who have maintained a good academic record (75% minimum overall average). Interested students will apply on the University of Waterloo general bursary application.
Special Achievement Bursary for Students with Disabilities
A bursary, valued at $350, may be awarded to an undergraduate student who is studying on a full- or part-time basis. Interested students should apply on the general University of Waterloo bursary application and attach a letter indicating their eligibility for assistance from this source and attach appropriate documentation outlining their disability.
Student Life Centre Management Board Bursary
A bursary fund established by the Student Life Centre Management Board (formerly Campus Centre Board) is available to graduate and undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties. Undergraduate students apply through the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office. Graduate students apply through the Graduate Studies Office.
University of Waterloo Bursaries
The University has established a bursary fund to assist students who have a proven financial need. Bursaries are awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students in any faculty of the University.
University of Waterloo Retirees' Award Fund
The University of Waterloo Retirees' Association has established this fund to assist students who have proven financial need. Bursaries are presented to full- or part-time undergraduates enrolled in any discipline of the University.
University of Waterloo 25th Anniversary Bursaries
This fund was established by the University from the sale of anniversary souvenirs in the Bookstore along with proceeds from many anniversary events in recognition of the 25th Anniversary of the University of Waterloo. Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students in any faculty who are in need of financial assistance.
UW Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund
The UW Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund makes available funds to assist academically qualified students experiencing financial difficulties. The fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the Province of Ontario. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education. Contributions have been received from: The Atkinson Charitable Foundation; The Gary Buckley Memorial Fund; The Chawkers Foundation.
