Sameer Ahuja Perseverance Award
This award, valued at up to $2,000, has been established by family in honour of Sameer Ahuja (1980 - 2004) to recognize and provide financial assistance to a student who is persevering to obtain a degree while facing the challenges of a severe chronic medical condition and/or a physical disability. Sameer was an exceptional young man who was determined to persevere with his studies despite a life threatening illness which created numerous physical challenges for him. Interested undergraduate students in any Faculty who have obtained a minimum overall average of 65% and who have a demonstrated financial need are invited to submit an application by November 1.
Jerzy W. Anders Memorial Award
A $150 award has been established in memory of Jerzy Anders, a graduate of the University of Waterloo. The award is given to mature individuals who were forced to interrupt their university education due to financial difficulties or family obligations and are experiencing financial hardship upon re-entering the academic world. Mature students experiencing financial difficulties should include a letter detailing their circumstances along with the bursary application form.
Barkley's of Avonmore Bursary
One bursary is awarded annually to a student from a Third World Country. Interested international students must submit a bursary application form.
Stella Margaret Callfas Bursary
Bursaries are available to undergraduate and graduate students who are experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the responsibilities associated with being a sole-support parent, with preference to female students. Interested full- or part-time students enrolled in Year One or above who are studying towards a degree or diploma and who have a minimum overall average of 72% or above may apply. This bursary is made possible by a gift from William F. Goetz in memory of his mother, Stella Margaret Callfas. An application is required by November 1, March 1, or June 15.
Douglas K. Campbell Memorial Bursary
One bursary, valued at approximately $1,000, is awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in any year and any program who is in good academic standing, and who has a demonstrated financial need as determined by the University of Waterloo. To be considered, students must complete the Full-time Bursary Application. Preference will be given to candidates whose parent or parents are members of a trade union. For the purpose of this bursary, a trade union is an association of workers from any sector of the workforce in Canada that has been certified by applicable legislation to represent employees in the negotiation of the terms of their employment. This fund is made possible by a donation from the estate of Douglas K. Campbell.
Canadian Federation of University Women – Kitchener-Waterloo Bursaries
Bursary funds may be provided in support of mature female students enrolled in a degree program on a full- or part-time basis who are in good academic standing and in need of financial assistance.
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Award
One or more awards, valued at $1,000 each, have been established by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce to assist students in financial need. Full-time undergraduates in any Faculty who have maintained a minimum overall average of 75% and who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate leadership ability as shown through on-campus or community extracurricular activities.
Ross & Doris Dixon Bursary for Students With Disabilities
One or more bursaries, valued at up to $2,000, are awarded annually to students with disabilities who are experiencing financial difficulties and are studying on a full- or part-time basis in a degree status or non-degree status program. A minimum overall academic average of 60% is required. Applicants should include a letter to explain their eligibility for assistance from this source and attach appropriate documentation outlining their disability or indicate that they have documentation on file at AccessAbility Services. An application is required by November 1, March 1, or June 1.
Federation of Students – University of Waterloo Bursary
Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties, maintaining a 75% overall average, and who are active in campus student organizations.
Foreign Student Bursary
One bursary, valued at up to $400, is available annually for an international student experiencing financial difficulties. This fund was established by the Committee for Emergency Relief for Foreign Students.
K.D. Fryer – F.A.S.S. Award
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Kenneth D. Fryer, one of the founders and long time supporters of the F.A.S.S. theatre company. Funds are available to full- and part-time students at any level in any program offered by the University of Waterloo. Candidates must have a minimum overall average of 60% and demonstrated financial need.
J.G. Hagey Alumni Bursary
In memory of J.G. Hagey, President Emeritus of the University, and in recognition of his significant contributions to post-secondary education, the University of Waterloo Alumni has established a bursary fund. Several bursaries, to a maximum of $200 each, are awarded annually to students with financial need.
William and Nona Heaslip Awards
Several awards, valued at up $15,000 per year and renewable for two years, are awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in Year Two of any degree program at the University of Waterloo. The award is based on a combination of academic achievement, financial need, and community service. Top students in eligible Faculties (based on a rotating annual schedule) will be invited to apply following completion of the 1B study term. These awards are made possible by a donation from the William and Nona Heaslip Foundation.
David Johnston Waterloo Awards for Refugee Students
Funding is available each year to support undergraduate and graduate refugee students who are sponsored by the World University Service of Canada at Waterloo (WUSC) or any other students who are recognized by the Canadian government as being refugees or protected persons. Candidates may be enrolled in any Faculty/program at the University of Waterloo. The funds are intended to assist students who are no longer receiving sponsorship support and who have a demonstrated financial need. Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing. Students interested in applying for this award must complete an award application and submit it to the SAFA Office or GSO by June 15 for the Spring term, November 1 for the Fall term, and March 1 for the Winter term. The value of each award will vary depending on financial need and available funds. These awards were established through the generous support of donors in honour of former Waterloo President David Johnston as a lasting tribute to his 11-year service to this University and in recognition of his passion for international opportunities for students.
Bernice MacCallum Hilliard Bursaries
Bursaries are awarded annually to mature, female, undergraduate students, enrolled in full- or part-time studies at the University of Waterloo, who are in need of financial assistance. An application is required by November 1.
Fred Kelly Bursary
In memory of Fred Kelly, General Manager for the Federation of Students, the Federation has established a bursary fund. Bursaries may be awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have attained an overall academic average of 65%.
Colonel Gerry Mann Memorial Bursary
One bursary, valued at approximately $1,000, is awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in any program who is in good academic standing (minimum overall average of 70%) and who has a demonstrated financial need, as determined by Waterloo. To be considered, students must complete the Full-time Bursary/Award application. Preference will be given to students who identify career goals in the Canadian military, law enforcement, or aviation, as well as to students with demonstrated leadership skills. This fund is made possible through donations from Tina Mann, Jack Trimmer, and family and friends in honour and memory of Tina’s father Colonel Gerry Mann.
Hildegard Marsden Bursary
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Hildegard Marsden, Dean of Women for more than 20 years, for her service to students and the University of Waterloo community at-large. This award is for students in third- or fourth-year of their degree program who demonstrate financial need, and is given in the Winter term. Preference will be given to female applicants.
Mature Student Services Bursary
Mature undergraduate students who are studying on campus on a part-time basis and who are encountering financial difficulties are invited to apply. To be considered, applicants must be enrolled in a degree program and must be in good standing. Interested students should apply early in the term. This fund is made possible through the kind support of friends of the former Mature Student Services Office.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare Paul D. Mitchell Bursary
Bursaries, valued at $1,000 each, have been established by McNeil Consumer Healthcare and by friends and colleagues of Paul D. Mitchell to assist students in financial need. Full-time undergraduates in any Faculty who are experiencing financial difficulties may apply. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario during the entire 12-month period immediately prior to beginning their post-secondary education.
Métis Nation of Ontario Bursary
Bursaries, valued at $1,000 or more, are awarded annually to full- or part-time undergraduate Métis students from Ontario enrolled in any program of any year at the University of Waterloo who are in good academic standing and who have demonstrated financial need. Interested students must complete the Full-time Bursary/Award Application or the Part-time Undergraduate Bursary Application by November 1. As well, candidates must self-identify as Métis by completing a declaration form. This fund is made possible by a donation from the Métis Nation of Ontario.
Walter Metzger Memorial Awards
Numerous awards are granted annually to full-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Year Two of their program of study who are in good academic standing and have demonstrated financial need. To be considered, students should submit the Waterloo Full-time Bursary/Award application by November 1, March 1, or June 1. These awards are made possible by a generous gift from the late Walter Metzger.
NCR Waterloo Student Opportunity Fund
Several awards, valued at $1,000 each, have been established by NCR Waterloo to assist full-time undergraduate students with a minimum 78% overall average who are experiencing financial difficulty. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership ability as evidenced by involvement in extracurricular activities either at the University or within the community. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.
Ira G. Needles Memorial Bursary Fund
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Ira George Needles, one of the founding fathers of the University of Waterloo, Chairman of the Board of Governors from 1956 to 1966 when he was named Chancellor. Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties and who have maintained a 75% overall average.
Ottawa-University of Waterloo Alumni Bursary
One or more bursaries, valued at a minimum of $500 each, are available to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in first-, second-, third-, or fourth-year in any Faculty who have a financial need and a minimum overall average of 65%. Eligible students must have a home address in the Ottawa area, including the counties of Frontenac, Ottawa-Carleton, Prescott & Russell, and Renfrew. This fund has been established and is supported by University of Waterloo alumni residing in the Ottawa area.
Abraham Rosenberg Memorial Bursary
A bursary fund has been established in memory of Abraham Rosenberg, a former member of University of Waterloo Board of Governors.
Sceptre Investment Counsel Limited Award
Several awards, valued at a minimum of $500 each, are available to full-time undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties and who have maintained a good academic record (75% minimum overall average).
Special Achievement Bursary for Students with Disabilities
One bursary, valued at up to $500, may be awarded to an undergraduate student who is studying on a full- or part-time basis. Applicants should include a letter to explain their eligibility for assistance from this source and attach appropriate documentation outlining their disability or indicate that they have documentation on file at AccessAbility Services.
Student Life Centre Management Board Bursary
A bursary fund established by the Student Life Centre Management Board (formerly Campus Centre Board) is available to graduate and undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties.
University of Waterloo Bursaries
The University has established a bursary fund to assist students with demonstrated financial need. Bursaries are awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students in any faculty of the University.
University of Waterloo Retirees' Award
The University of Waterloo Retirees' Association has established this fund to assist students with demonstrated financial need. Bursaries are provided to full- or part-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any program at the University.
University of Waterloo 25th Anniversary Bursaries
This fund was established by the University from the sale of anniversary souvenirs in the Bookstore, along with proceeds from many anniversary events in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the University of Waterloo. Bursaries are awarded to full-time undergraduate students in any Faculty who are in need of financial assistance.
University of Waterloo Undergraduate Student Opportunity Award
Several awards are provided annually to support undergraduate students experiencing financial difficulties. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education. This fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the province of Ontario. In addition to a large number of general donations, contributions have been received from: the Atkinson Charitable Foundation, the Gary Buckley Memorial Fund, the Chawkers Foundation, and the Helen Pollock Bursary Fund.
