Entrance Scholarships and Awards

Faculty of Environment

Peter Olufemi Adeniyi Entrance Scholarship in Geography and Environmental Management

One scholarship, valued at $1,000, is awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student entering first year of the Geography and Environmental Management program. This fund is made possible by a donation from Dr. Peter Adeniyi. Dr. Adeniyi is an internationally recognized leader in fostering the adoption, adaptation, and application of remote sensing and geographical information systems.

Canadian General-Tower Scholarships in the Environment

Three scholarships, valued at up to $1,500 each, have been established by Canadian General-Tower Ltd., to encourage academic excellence, attract outstanding students, and to enhance the University's programs related to the environment. The scholarships are made annually to outstanding students entering Year One in each of the following areas: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, and one of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, Geography and Environmental Management, or Planning in the Faculty of Environment.

ESRI Canada Geomatics Entrance Scholarship

Two scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, are awarded annually to outstanding undergraduate students entering first year of the Geomatics program in the Faculty of Environment. In addition, ESRI Canada will provide scholarship recipients with their own one-year subscription to ESRI Development Network (EDN) and a copy of ArcInfo EDN. The EDN subscription provides all of ESRI’s server and developer tools plus access to the EDN website for developers. ArcInfo is ESRI’s powerful desktop product with tools for editing data, authoring maps, and geoprocessing models.

Faculty of Environment Dean’s Scholarship for Excellence

Five scholarships, valued at $7,500 each over two academic terms, are awarded annually to outstanding students entering first-year studies in the Faculty of Environment. Selection is based on demonstrated interest and/or passion for environmental issues, academic excellence (minimum 85% admission average), and extracurricular achievement as assessed through the Admission Information Form. Eligible students must complete the Admission Information Form and submit an online application by early April. The application is available on the Find Out More website in late March.

Faculty of Environment Entrance Scholarships

Scholarships, valued at $500 - $2,500 each, may be awarded to outstanding students entering first-year studies in the Faculty of Environment.

Len Gertler Scholarship

One scholarship, valued at up to $1,500, is awarded annually to an outstanding student entering first year of Planning. This fund is made possible through the efforts of a dedicated group of Planners in appreciation of Len Gertler's contribution to the School of Planning, to the education he provided, and to Canadian planning.  

Ed Jernigan Knowledge Integration Entrance Scholarship

One scholarship, valued at $3,000, is awarded annually to an outstanding full-time undergraduate student entering Year One of the Bachelor of Knowledge Integration program. Selection is based on academic achievement and extracurricular involvement as assessed through the Admission Information Form. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a balance in strength across the arts and sciences. This fund is made possible by a donation from Dr. Ed Jernigan.

Robert Kerr Scholarships

This fund provides for three entrance scholarships in the Faculty of Arts and one entrance scholarship that will alternate annually between the School of Architecture and the School of Planning. Valued at $2,500 - $3,500, these scholarships are awarded to outstanding undergraduate students entering first-year studies at the University of Waterloo.

Knowledge Integration Entrance Scholarships

Ten awards, valued at $2,500 each, are awarded annually to outstanding full-time undergraduate students entering Year One of the Bachelor of Knowledge Integration program. Selection is based on academic and extracurricular achievement as assessed through the Admission Information Form. These awards are made possible by a donation from Waterloo alumnus David J. Cornfield (BASc ’85).

Bruce MacKinnon Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship, valued at up to $500, will be awarded annually to an outstanding student entering first year of the Geography and Aviation or Environment, Resources and Sustainability programs in the Faculty of Environment. This fund is made possible by a donation from family and friends of Bruce MacKinnon.

Minto Green Real Estate Scholarship in Environment and Business

Four scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, are awarded annually to full-time undergraduate students entering Year One of the Environment and Business program in the School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development, who have a minimum admission average of 85%. This fund is made possible by a donation from the Minto Foundation.

Peter H. Nash Environmental Studies Entrance Scholarship

A $500 scholarship was established by the Faculty of Environment to mark the retirement of Peter H. Nash, the founding Dean of the Faculty and, subsequently, in memory of the late Inez Frost Nash. The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student entering first-year studies in the Faculty of Environment.

St. Paul’s International Development Continuing Scholarship

Four scholarships, valued at $10,000 each over four academic years, are awarded annually to outstanding students entering first-year studies in the Faculty of Environment’s International Development program. Recipients will receive $2,500 in Year One with renewal payments of $1,250 per academic term beginning in Year Two provided an overall cumulative average of 80% is maintained. Selection is based on demonstrated interest and/or passion for environmental issues, academic excellence (minimum 85% admission average), and extracurricular achievement as assessed through the Admission Information Form. Eligible students must complete the Admission Information Form and submit an online application by early April. The application is available on the Find Out More website in late March.

Joan M. Swanson Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarships, valued at $1,500 each, are awarded annually to undergraduate students entering first year in the Faculty of Environment. This fund is made possible by a donation from Wendy Campbell in memory of her mother.

University of Waterloo Planning Alumni of Toronto Scholarships

Several scholarships, valued at $1,000 - $1,500 each, are awarded annually to outstanding students entering first year of Planning. This fund is made possible through the efforts of the University of Waterloo Planning Alumni of Toronto.
