German - Overview

In German Studies within the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies, we offer courses in the humanities, social sciences, as well as language and culture, taught in German, Dutch, and/or English. German Studies at University of Waterloo has one of the largest number of faculty members among German programs in Canada, allowing us to offer a wide range of courses in different subject areas. Students can select from elementary to advanced language courses, as well as choose courses in culture, film, literature, linguistics, and language teaching. Some of these courses are offered online.

Students enrolled in our program, as well as in others, are encouraged to take advantage of our international exchange opportunities where they can study and/or work from a few weeks to a year in German-speaking countries.

Our graduates typically pursue careers in business, government, and higher education. We invite you to visit the Germanic and Slavic Studies website for more information, including alumni profiles.
