Arts Academic Plans

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative average of 65% in SMF and Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies approved courses.

Eligibility for graduation in the Four-Year General Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies academic plan includes successful fulfillment of the following requirements:

1. Appropriate Program-level requirements. See Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements.
2. Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies Plan-level requirements:
   • at least nine academic course units (18 courses) in SMF and Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies approved courses with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
     • SMF 205, SMF 206, SMF 207, SMF 220, SMF 230, SMF 310 
     • one of SMF 204, PSYCH 236
     • one of SMF 304, SMF 305, SMF 365
     • one of SMF 306, SMF 307, SMF 366, PSYCH 354/PSYCH 354R 
     • one of SMF 317/HIST 317, SMF 318/HIST 318, SMF 319 (see Note 2)
     • eight additional courses from the balance of those courses above and the following SMF and Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies approved courses, including two at the 300-level or above:
       • two of ENGL 108E/WS 108E, ENGL 208C, ENGL 208E/WS 208E, ENGL 208N, ENGL 217, HIST 213, HIST 277, HIST 313, ITALST 111, JS 120/RS 111, PHIL 201, PHIL 202/WS 222, PHIL 210J, PHIL 219J, PHIL 318J, RS 150, RS 180, RS 254, RS 324, RS 325/WS 320

Notes

1. Students are encouraged to make note of course prerequisites and discuss their Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies (SMF) plan and course progression with the SMF academic advisor
2. Students should plan to take an introductory HIST course prior to 3A to ensure requisites are met for SMF 317/HIST 317, SMF 318/HIST 318, or SMF 319.
3. No one course may fulfill more than one requirement within any SMF plan.
