In the Fine Arts program at Waterloo, students can specialize in Art History, Film Studies, or Studio. The program provides students with a critical basis for understanding the fine arts. Courses include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, computer imaging, art history, and film studies. The Department also offers trips to museums and galleries in Chicago, New York, and Toronto, as well as optional course trips abroad to such locations as Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Admission to Fine Arts Studio Specialization at the end of Year One requires successful completion of FINE 112, 120, 121 and the submission of a portfolio of work done in FINE 120 and 121. Successful completion of FINE 110 in the first year will also be an asset, although students can take this course in their second year. The Fine Arts Department will make a final selection of students at the end of the winter term. Due to limitations of resources, fulfilment of these minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission to Fine Arts Studio academic plans. Students should be aware that most studio courses contain mandatory drawing sessions with the life model.
