Continuation in this academic plan requires a minimum cumulative overall average of 60% and a minimum cumulative Economics major average of 70%.
Eligibility for graduation in the Honours Economics academic plan includes successful completion of the following requirements:
- Appropriate program-level requirements. See Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements.
- Economics plan-level requirements:
- a minimum cumulative Economics major average of 70%
- at least eight academic course units (16 courses) in Economics, including:
- ECON 101, ECON 102, ECON 211, ECON 221, ECON 290, ECON 306, ECON 322, ECON 323, ECON 391, ECON 393
- one of ECON 406, ECON 407, ECON 408, ECON 409
- five additional ECON courses at the 200-level or above, two of which must be at the 400-level
Notes
- ECON 201 does not fulfil Economics course requirements for any Economics major plan.
- It is recommended that students planning to major in Economics have Grade 12 courses in Mathematics, preferably Algebra and Geometry, and Calculus or the equivalent, i.e., Ontario Grade 12 U (university level) Advanced Functions and Introductory Calculus, or Ontario Grade 12 U (university level) Calculus and Vectors. Students without these courses are encouraged to select MATH 103 and MATH 104 in their first year of study at the University of Waterloo.
Arts and Business (Co-op and Regular)
Students may combine the Honours Economics academic plan with Arts and Business. In addition to the Honours Economics requirements, students must also complete the Arts and Business requirements.
Honours Double Majors
Honours Economics may be taken in combination with most Arts majors in which an honours major is offered or with many honours majors in other faculties. For further information, see the double majors section of Available Arts Academic Plans.
Intensive Specialization
In combination with the Honours Economics plan-level requirements listed above, students interested in pursuing the Intensive Specialization will be required to fulfil the following requirements:
- A minimum cumulative Economics major average of 75%.
- Successful completion of five additional courses, for a total of 10.5 academic course units (21 courses) in Economics:
Notes
- The Intensive Specialization is only open to students majoring in the Honours Economics academic plan.
- Students must achieve a minimum cumulative major average of 75% in all Economics courses counted towards their Honours Economics major.
- Students who have completed courses towards this specialization who are not able to sustain the required 75% minimum cumulative major average but are still eligible for honours standing will normally be allowed to continue in the Honours Economics major, but without the specialization.
