The Social Work Specialization allows Social Development Studies students in good standing to develop a concentration of courses related to studies in social work that will be noted on their transcript. It is designed for students interested in social work, and includes many of the prerequisite courses that will prepare students who plan to apply to the Bachelor of Social Work program at Renison. Honours students may combine this specialization with one of the other Honours specializations. Open to any student with a major in Social Development Studies.

The Social Work Specialization requires successful completion of a minimum of 3.5 academic course units (seven courses), including:

- Students are strongly encouraged to take courses at the level that corresponds to their year in Arts (i.e., 2A/B students take 200-level courses).
- Other courses may be considered as approved upon written request to, and written confirmation from, the Chair of Social Development Studies.
- For students completing the Honours degree in Social Development Studies, this specialization may be combined with any one of the Honours specializations available.
