A Joint Honours academic plan with Speech Communication may be taken in combination with most Arts disciplines in which an Honours academic plan is offered or with many Honours majors in other Faculties. See the department for the most recent list of approved combinations.
Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Speech Communication average of 75%.
Eligibility for graduation in the Joint Honours Speech Communication academic plan includes fulfilment of the following requirements:
- Appropriate Program-level requirements for the Home Faculty, including at least 20 academic course units. If the Home Faculty is Arts, see "Bachelor of Arts."
- Speech Communication Plan-level requirements:
- at least seven academic course units (14 courses) in Speech Communication core and approved courses with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, including:
- nine SPCOM courses:
- SPCOM 100, 223, 225, 227, 324
- four courses (two courses in each of two areas of concentration):
- Intercultural Communication: SPCOM 226, 401, 402, 404
- Interpersonal and Organizational Communication: SPCOM 325, 432, 433
- Performance Studies: SPCOM 102, 220, 326, 440
- Public and Digital Communication: SPCOM 228, 300, 323, 329, 400, 403, 431, 434
Note: By permission of the department, students may substitute SPCOM 499A/B for the two required courses in one of their chosen areas of concentration.

Students must declare their two areas of concentration with the department undergraduate advisor at the end of their 1B term.

Students in Honours Speech Communication Arts and Business or Joint Honours academic plans may double count no more than two courses from Speech Communication Approved Courses toward their Arts and Business or Joint Honours requirements and their Major plan in Speech Communication. This restriction includes any Specializations within the Arts and Business program.

Students in Speech Communication Major academic plans who are pursuing Minors or Options in other disciplines normally may double count no more than two courses from their Speech Communication Major towards their Minor or Option. Please consult with the academic advisors of both departments for further details.

Consultation with the department undergraduate advisor is highly recommended to ensure that students can fulfil all the academic plan requirements during the terms that they are on campus.
