The University of Waterloo provides a variety of learning opportunities to accommodate the needs of people seeking either university credit or courses for professional or personal development.
Students must be admitted to the University in order to pursue credit courses. No distinction in admission standards, grading practices, or promotion policies is made between those pursuing part-time or full-time, on-campus, or distance study. Students who do not meet the normal admission requirements may be considered for admission under UW's Mature Student Admission Policy (for more information refer to "Admissions - Other Applicants").
Distance Education
Through distance education, students can complete degree-credit courses without attending on-campus classes. Using quality learning materials in a variety of media such as CD ROMS, the Web, and online conferencing tools, students can study when and where it is most convenient.
Waterloo offers approximately 250 distance education courses in almost 45 subject areas. It is possible to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree or a Bachelor of Science degree (general, non-major) entirely through distance study. As well, there are diploma and certificate programs available.
Full-time, on-campus students find distance education courses can be the solution when an on-campus class they want is full, will not fit into their schedule, or is not being offered. Many take a distance course when they are not on campus (for example, when on a work term or away for the summer).

Continuing Education
Non-credit courses geared to professional development are offered throughout the year. Topics include project management, business communication, computer skills, financial management, writing, and languages. Customized corporate training for businesses and organizations can be arranged at our location or yours.
Many courses are taught at the Continuing Education Training Centre, and others are offered online. More than 80 online courses, offered in partnership with Ed2Go®, begin monthly.

It is possible to earn a degree entirely through part-time study or through a combination of part-time and full-time attendance.
