The Four-Year General Recreation and Leisure Studies plan is offered through the regular system of study only. Successful completion of 20.0 units is necessary to obtain the Bachelor of Arts, Four-Year General Recreation and Leisure Studies degree.
- Recreation courses (minimum of 10.5 units):
- Required recreation courses (4.0 units): REC 100, REC 101, REC 120, REC 201, REC 371, REC 373, REC 405, REC 420
- Recreation elective courses (minimum of 6.5 units): Any additional REC courses
- Note that MU353, Inclusive Arts for Children (1.0 unit) (see Laurier Calendar), is accepted as a University of Waterloo recreation elective.
- Courses outside the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies (maximum of 9.5 units):
- Required courses (1.0 unit): HEALTH 107, PSYCH 101/PSYCH 101R
- Restricted elective courses (2.0 units): Students must complete a total of four courses from the following 12 subject categories. To fulfil this requirement, students may only choose one course per subject category.
- An English course: ENGL
- A fine or performing arts course: FINE, MUSIC, THPERF
- A humanities course: CLAS, COMMST, HIST, HUMSC, INDG, MEDVL, PHIL, RS, VCULT
- A social science course: ANTH, ECON, GSJ, LS, PACS, PSCI, SDS, SMF, SOCWK, STV
- A psychology course (other than PSYCH 101/PSYCH 101R): PSYCH
- A sociology course: SOC
- A language or culture course: ARABIC, ASL, CHINA, CI, CROAT, DUTCH, EASIA, FR, GER, GRK, INDENT, INDG, ITAL, ITALST, JAPAN, JS, KOREA, LAT, MOHAWK, PORT, REES, RUSS, SI, SPAN
- A course offered by the Faculty of Health: GERON, HEALTH, HLTH, KIN
- A course offered by the Faculty of Environment: ENBUS, ENVS, ERS, GEOG, INDEV, INTEG, PLAN
- A course offered by the School of Computer Science: CS
- A course offered by the Faculty of Mathematics: ACTSC, AMATH, CO, COMM, MATBUS, MATH, MTHEL, PMATH, STAT
- A course offered by the Faculty of Science: BIOL, CHEM, EARTH, MNS, PHYS, SCI
- Free elective courses: 6.5 units
- Minimum cumulative major average required is 65%; minimum cumulative overall average required is 60%.
Note
Students are eligible to submit a Plan Modification Form to request one of the other Recreation and Leisure Studies plans, once a student has achieved a minimum cumulative Recreation and Leisure Studies major average of 70% and a minimum cumulative overall average of 65%.
