The rules in this section do not apply to students seeking a Bachelor of Computing and Financial Management (BCFM) or Bachelor of Software Engineering (BSE) degree. Eligible Plan Categories (In Plan-Sequencing Priority Order – Top Highest, Bottom Lowest)
- “Stand-alone” Mathematics Faculty Honours academic plans
- Mathematics Faculty Joint Honours academic plans
- Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) Joint can be combined with a Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) Mathematics Joint Honours
- Non-Mathematics Joint Honours academic plans
- BCS Joint and BMath Joint academic plans can be combined with a non-Mathematics Joint Honours (acceptable non-Mathematics Joint Honours academic plans are listed in the faculty sections of this Calendar)
- Mathematics Faculty minors or options
- Non-Mathematics minors or options
Academic plans will be listed on a student’s diploma in the above order.
A BCS or BMath student’s academic plan must include one of the following:
- A stand-alone Mathematics Faculty Honours academic plan, or
- Two Mathematics Faculty Joint Honours academic plans, or
- A Joint BCS academic plan and a non-Mathematics Joint Honours academic plan (acceptable non-Mathematics Joint Honours academic plans are listed in the non-Mathematics faculty section of this Calendar)
More academic plans may be added subject to the other restrictions in this section and in this Calendar. The academic plan listed first on a graduating student’s diploma will dictate the student’s degree: if the first academic plan is a BCS academic plan, then the student will graduate with a BCS. If the first academic plan is a BMath academic plan, then the student will graduate with a BMath.
Mathematics Faculty Joint Honours Plans
Joint honours academic plans both offered by the Mathematics Faculty, in conjunction with the common degree requirements in Table 1, require a total of 40 courses (20 units): the 10 mathematics courses in the Faculty core (outlined in Table 2) plus the joint requirements of the two departments/school for a minimum of 26 mathematics courses, and at least 10 non-math courses (five units).
