Engineering Specialization

Enrolment in this Specialization is limited; a minimum cumulative average of 70% is strongly recommended.

The Engineering Specialization has three theme areas: Fluids and Heat, Communication and Control, Heat and Mass Transfer. Students must choose only one.

The Engineering Specialization has the same requirements as Honours Applied Mathematics, with the constraints on course selection for each theme as given below:

Theme 1: Fluids and Heat

Notes

  1. ME courses can be used to fulfil the subject concentration requirement of the Honours Applied Mathematics academic plan.
  2. AMATH 361 and AMATH 463 can be used to satisfy the 300- and 400-level AMATH course requirements of the Honours Applied Mathematics plan.

Theme 2: Communication and Control

  • All of
  • One of
    • CO 250 Introduction to Optimization
    • CO 255 Introduction to Optimization (Advanced Level)
    • CS 475 Computational Linear Algebra
    • STAT 331 Applied Linear Models
    • STAT 340 Stochastic Simulation Methods
  • Two of
    • ECE 313 Digital Signal Processing
    • ECE 484 Digital Control Applications
    • ECE 486 Robot Dynamics and Control
    • SYDE 544 Biomedical Measurement and Signal Processing
    • SYDE 572 Introduction to Pattern Recognition

Notes

  1. ECE and SYDE courses can be used to fulfil the subject concentration requirement of the Honours Applied Mathematics academic plan.
  2. AMATH 455 can be used to satisfy the 300- and 400-level AMATH course requirements of the Honours Applied Mathematics academic plan.

Theme 3: Heat and Mass Transfer

  • All of
  • Two of
    • CHE 314 Chemical Reaction Engineering
    • CHE 331 Electrochemical Engineering
    • CHE 341 Introduction to Process Control
    • CHE 361 Bioprocess Engineering
    • CHE 522 Advanced Process Dynamics and Control

Notes

  1. CHE courses can be used to fulfil the subject concentration requirement of the Honours Applied Mathematics academic plan.
  2. AMATH 361 and AMATH 463 can be used to satisfy the 300- and 400-level AMATH course requirements of the Honours Applied Mathematics academic plan.
