In order to continue in Therapeutic Recreation, students must maintain a minimum major Recreation and Leisure Studies average of 70% and a minimum cumulative overall average of 65%.

Degree Requirements

1. Recreation courses (minimum of 10.0 units):

   • Required courses (10.0 units): REC 100, REC 101, REC 105, REC 120, REC 151, REC 201, REC 251, REC 252, REC 253, REC 270, REC 351, REC 356, REC 357, REC 371, REC 373, REC 405, REC 420, REC 450 (1.0 unit), REC 455
   • Recreation elective courses:
     Although students are not required to complete additional recreation electives, they may take additional recreation courses as part of the free electives category below.
     
     • Note that MU353 Inclusive Arts for Children (1.0 unit) (see Laurier calendar) is accepted as a University of Waterloo recreation elective.
     • All cross-listed courses with REC are counted as recreation electives and are included in the major average.

2. Courses outside the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies:

   • Required courses (2.5 units):

3. Free elective courses: 7.5 units

Notes

1. Students will be advised to take a selection of elective courses within preferred areas of concentration to fulfill their elective course requirements.
2. Students are permitted to pursue a double major in any of Honours Recreation and Sport Business, Honours Therapeutic Recreation, and Honours Tourism Development, by meeting the requirements of each plan.
3. Students are required to complete REC 253 by the end of their third year.
4. Students have the option of completing REC 450 after 3B or 4B term. REC 253 must be completed prior to REC 450. Contact the course instructor for more information.
