Student Awards & Financial Aid administers a small number of emergency loan funds which are intended to provide emergency assistance to students experiencing temporary, short-term financial problems. The funds are provided on an interest-free basis for a stipulated period of time.
To be eligible for these loans, students must be in good academic standing and must provide proof of an acceptable source of repayment. Students wishing to obtain assistance from one of the following funds should submit an application, available on the Student Awards & Financial Aid website.
Ginny Lee Memorial Fund
The Federation of Students has established an interest-free, short-term loan fund in memory of former student Ginny Lee. Loans are available up to a maximum of $1,000 for a period of up to 90 days.
Registrar's Office Emergency Loan Fund
This fund was established in 1982 by a former Registrar's Office staff member to provide interest-free loans to students experiencing short-term difficulties. Loans are provided for a period of up to 90 days at a maximum value of $500 per student.
School of Optometry and Vision Science Emergency Loan Fund
This fund has been established by the School of Optometry and Vision Science and has been made possible as a result of donations by the profession. Optometry students who have completed or are about to complete third year who need assistance with some of the up-front costs of their required rotation may be eligible to receive an interest-free loan up to a maximum of $1,500 for a period of up to 90 days.
University of Waterloo Loan Fund
Loans up to $500 for a maximum of 90 days are available to full-time undergraduate students experiencing short-term financial difficulty.
