Wilfrid Laurier University Cross-Registration

Once admitted to degree studies in the Faculty of Arts, students wishing to take a course at Wilfrid Laurier University (Laurier) for credit toward a University of Waterloo degree must complete an Undergraduate Studies Cross-Registration form. An Undergraduate Studies Cross-Registration form must be approved by the student's advisor prior to enrolling at Laurier and is subject to faculty and departmental regulations.

An Undergraduate Studies Cross-Registration form may be granted only to degree students:

  • who have successfully completed a minimum of four University of Waterloo courses, and
  • who satisfied the minimum cumulative average requirements for their current academic plan and are in satisfactory standing.

A maximum total of ten academic course units (for a four-year degree) or 7.5 academic course units (for a three-year degree) may be transferred towards an Arts degree. This maximum includes courses taken on a Letter of Permission, by University Studies Cross-Registration with Laurier, or by enrolling in a Laurier course which appears on the University of Waterloo Schedule of Classes (see Transfer Credit regulation for further details).

Courses taken at Laurier, regardless of the method of registration, require a minimum grade of D- or Waterloo equivalent (50%) in order for credit to be transferred (see Grading System).

Grades of courses taken at Laurier via cross-registration will appear on the University of Waterloo record but normally will not be included in the University of Waterloo average (see Residency Requirement). There are four disciplines where this policy does not apply. The Laurier course grade is calculated in the student's average(s) and not counted as a transfer credit in the following four instances:

  • students completing a major or minor in Spanish may complete Spanish courses at Laurier
  • students completing a major or minor in Classical Studies or Classics may complete Latin and Greek courses at Laurier
  • students completing a major or minor in Anthropology may complete Archaeology courses at Laurier
  • students completing a major or minor in German have the option of taking GER 305W (see Laurier calendar), GER 306W (see Laurier calendar), and up to three additional German courses at Laurier

The Undergraduate Studies Cross-Registration form may be printed from the Registrar's Office website.
