University of Waterloo students may occasionally enroll in Independent Studies (IS) courses as electives provided they are well qualified and provided that students demonstrate the potential for self-directed studies. Written permission must be granted by the home plan undergraduate advisor and the Director of the Independent Studies program. Students are responsible for identifying and obtaining the consent of a supervising instructor in the field related to the topic of the proposed elective.
