Department of Kinesiology
Second Degree
Applicants who have previously completed a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo or at another post-secondary institution will be considered for entry to an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. This option is intended for students exploring a new and distinct area of study.
Students completing a second degree will not be eligible to participate in the Co-operative (Co-op) System of Study. The amount of time that has lapsed since the completion of the first degree will be a factor in determining admissibility to a plan and it may impact the number of transfer credits awarded. Normally, transfer credits will be awarded for courses meeting the transfer credit criteria and that have been taken within the previous five years. If equivalents to core requirements are not assigned, then it will take longer than two years to complete all degree requirements.
Once admitted, a minimum of 10.0 units (20 courses) must be completed beyond the first degree. These additional courses must include all requirements specified for the new degree and all required courses must be completed at the University of Waterloo. The amount of time required to fulfill all requirements of this second degree will be dependent on the number of transfer credits awarded.
Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies
Degree Upgrade
Recreation and Leisure Studies general students may pursue a degree upgrade from general to honours. Graduates with a general degree who wish to upgrade will be admitted on a case-by-case basis. Normally, applications to upgrade a degree must be completed within eight years following completion of the general degree. Students wishing an upgrade are required to return the earlier degree in order to be granted the upgraded degree.
Second Degree
Applicants who have previously completed a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo or at another post-secondary institution will be considered for entry into the Recreation and Leisure Studies program to pursue an undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) in one of the following honours plans:
- Recreation and Leisure Studies
- Recreation and Sport Business
- Therapeutic Recreation
- Tourism Development
This option is intended for students exploring a new and distinct area of study. Students completing a second degree will not be eligible to participate in the Co-operative (Co-op) System of Study.

School of Public Health and Health Systems
Second Degree
Applicants who have previously completed a three-year or four-year undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo or at another post-secondary institution will be considered for entry to an undergraduate Honours Bachelor of Public Health or an Honours Bachelor of Science, Health Studies. This option is intended for students exploring a new and distinct area of study.
Students completing a second degree will not be eligible to participate in the Co-operative (Co-op) System of Study. The amount of time that has lapsed since the completion of the first degree will be a factor in determining admissibility to a plan and it may impact the number of transfer credits awarded. Normally, for the Honours Bachelor of Public Health degree, transfer credit will be awarded for courses meeting the transfer credit criteria and that have been taken within the previous eight years. For the Honours Bachelor of Science, Health Studies, normally, transfer credit will be awarded for courses meeting the transfer credit criteria and that have been taken within the previous five years.
