A Letter of Permission allows a student to take courses at another university that may be considered for credit towards their degree at their home university, subject to faculty or program approval and regulations.
In order to be eligible for admission to a university on a Letter of Permission basis, students must be in "good standing" at their home university, complete a Letter of Permission application form and obtain the approval of their academic advisor in advance of the application deadline at the "host" institution. Normally, the "host" institution will require the completion of their standard Application for Admission form following the receipt of the Letter of Permission. In some cases, the "host" institution will require a transcript from the "home" university.
Waterloo students looking to take course(s) at another university should complete the outgoing Letter of permission form and obtain approval from their academic advisor in advance of the application deadline at the host institution. Students from other universities intending to study at the University of Waterloo on a Letter of Permission must initiate the process through their home university's Registrar's Office. The incoming Letter of Permission application must be submitted to the University of Waterloo no later than two months prior to the desired term of study. Class enrolment is always subject to space availability in the course(s) requested.
