Joint Honours Psychology

A Joint Honours degree allows students to study an Honours Major in two different disciplines. Joint Honours Psychology may be combined with an Honours Arts discipline or with many Honours Majors in other faculties. Refer to the Joint Honours Psychology section on the Psychology undergraduate website to review samples of Joint Honours combinations.

Joint Honours Psychology provides opportunities for in-depth study of psychological theory and research. Courses are available in the following areas: clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and social psychology. Third- and fourth-year students have opportunities to study in small groups, to obtain hands-on laboratory training, to enrol in courses where they work one-on-one with faculty members, and to enrol in apprenticeship courses that provide practical field experience in applied settings.

Please refer to the Applying for a Psychology Major section.

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60%, a cumulative Psychology average of 75%, and the minimum Major average requirement for the second Honours Major. Conditional standing may be granted for one academic term to students whose averages fall below these criteria.

Eligibility for graduation in the Joint Honours Psychology academic plan includes successful fulfillment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate Program-level requirements for the Home Faculty, including at least 20 academic course units (40 courses). If the Home Faculty is Arts, see Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements.
  2. Psychology Plan-level requirements:
    • at least eight academic course units (16 courses) in Psychology with a minimum cumulative Psychology average of 75%. The Psychology course requirements are the same as those for Honours Psychology except that one of the nine academic course units (i.e., two of the 18 courses) in Psychology will be waived. See the Joint Honours Psychology section on the Psychology undergraduate website for samples of course waivers.
  3. Plan-level requirements for the second major.

Notes

  1. For Joint Honours Psychology "Departmental" Co-op (first Major must be Psychology), see Honours Psychology Co-op.
  2. If Psychology courses are required for another academic plan(s), please refer to the Faculty of Arts' double-counting regulations for further details.
  3. The notes provided for Honours Psychology (Bachelor of Arts) apply to Joint Honours Psychology.
