Students enrolled in any degree program may pursue a minor designation in Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies.
The Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies Minor requires successful completion of a minimum of four academic course units (eight courses) in SMF and Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies approved courses with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
- SMF 206, 207, 310
- one of SMF 204; PSYCH 236
- one of SMF 317/HIST 317; SMF 318/HIST 318; SMF 319
- three additional courses (one must be at the 300-level or above) from the following SMF and Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies approved courses: ANTH 261; DRAMA 397/FINE 378; ENGL 108E, 208C, 208E, 208N, 217; GERON 220/HLTH 220; HIST 213, 277, 313; ITALST 111; JS 120/RS 111; PHIL 201, 202, 210J, 219J, 318J; PSYCH 235, 318, 354/354R; RS 150, 180, 254, 324, 325; SDS 353R, 354R; SMF 205, 208, 220, 230, 304, 305, 306, 307, 308, 309, 311, 319, 365, 366, 367, 404, 406, 408; SMF 317/HIST 317, SMF 318/HIST 318; SOC 200, 209, 275, 325, 355J, 369J; SOC 206/WS 209; one of SOCWK 321R, 355R, 357R, 390A, 390B; WS 101
Notes:
- Some of the required courses have prerequisites that students are recommended to take in their first year. Consult the calendar description for each course.
- Students are encouraged to discuss their electives with the Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies academic advisor.
- SMF 204 and PSYCH 236 are antirequisites; students are not permitted to take both courses for credit towards their degree.
- SMF 306 and PSYCH 354/354R are antirequisites; students are not permitted to take both courses for credit towards their degree.
- No one course may fulfill more than one requirement within any Sexuality, Marriage, and Family Studies plan.
