The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies encourages students to spend part of their studies in a Slavic-speaking country. These courses in Russian programs can be credited to University of Waterloo by obtaining a Letter of Permission before leaving. Some of our students have taken part in the following programs:
Dalhousie Intensive Russian Program: Students spend a semester (January-May) at St. Petersburg State University studying Russian. This is preceded by a semester of Russian at Dalhousie. This program is designed for foreign-language learners at all stages of their Russian language development.
Moscow State University: Students spend 2-12 weeks at Moscow State University learning Russian. This program is designed for all levels of language learners, and includes the option of home or dormitory stay.
Petrozavodsk State University: Students can take advantage of this unique opportunity to study Russian outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg. Four, eight, and 12 week programs are available and are appropriate for all skill levels.
