Co-operative Program Evaluation

Students in the Co-operative program will be evaluated by the rules shown, modified where necessary to suit their special needs. In particular:

  1. Students not meeting requirements of their plan will be transferred to another Science Academic Plan (Regular system) in good standing, if possible.
  2. Normally a student may take no more than two upper year terms on a part-time or reduced course basis and must have special permission from her/his department to do so.  A student must have an Academic Load of  'Full-Time' in an academic term prior to a work term.
  3. A student is expected to follow the work-term sequence from the point of entry, subject to the minimum requirements for graduation within the individual Academic Plans. The minimum number of related work terms required is normally four. The minimum number of satisfactory work reports is normally four.
  4. Students in the Co-operative programs in the Faculty of Science are required to successfully complete four Professional Development (WatPD) courses offered by CECS to qualify for a co-op degree.  With the exception of PD1, students are expected to take these courses while on their co-op work terms.  Exceptions will be granted only under exceptional circumstances by the Associate Dean of Science, Co-op.  To maintain good standing in the co-op program, students should meet the following milestones.
    • PD1 (Co-op Fundamentals) must be completed before the beginning of the first work term.
    • PD2 (Critical Reflection & Report Writing) must be completed before the beginning of the second work term.
    • One of the remaining PD courses (PD3 to PD7) must be completed by the end of the third work term.
    • Another one of the remaining PD courses must be completed by the end of the last work term.
