Mennonite Studies

Mennonite Studies Option

The Mennonite Studies Option is open to students in Three-Year General (Major or Liberal Studies) and Four-Year General Liberal Studies academic plans in Arts.

Requirements

The Mennonite Studies Option requires successful completion of a minimum of five academic course units (ten courses) with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:

  1. List A (two courses required):
    ENGL 218 Mennonite Literature
    HIST 247 Mennonite History: A Survey
    HIST 348/RS 344 The Radical Reformation
    RS 352 Contemporary Mennonite Thought
    SOC 275 Mennonites as a Sociological Community
  2. List B (two courses required):
    HIST 235/RS 240 History of Christianity
    RS 235 Jesus: Life and Legacy
    RS 236 Paul: Life and Letters
    RS 250 History of Christian Thought
    RS 335 Unity and Diversity in the New Testament
  3. List C (six courses required):
    Students may substitute a directed study for one of these, subject to the approval of the relevant instructor and the director of the plan.

    HIST 379 Reformation History
    HIST 400A Reformation Seminar
    PACS 201 Roots of Conflict and Violence
    PACS 203 A History of Peace Movements
    RS 152 Introduction to Theology
    RS 256/PACS 320 Christian Approaches to Peacemaking
    RS 353 War and Peace in Christian Theology

Notes:

  1. Students should choose their courses in consultation with the Director of the plan.
  2. Students must adhere to Arts Faculty guidelines with respect to transfer credit from Bible Colleges.
