German

German - Overview

In German Studies within the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies, students gain a deep understanding of the German language, as well as the history and culture of German-speaking countries and their peoples. German Studies at UW has one of the largest number of faculty members among German programs in Canada, allowing us to offer a wide range of courses in different subject areas. Students can select from elementary to advanced language courses, as well as choose courses in culture, film, literature, linguistics, and language teaching. Some of these courses are offered via distance education. Students in our program are encouraged to take advantage of our international exchange opportunities where they can study and/or work from a few weeks to a year in German-speaking countries.

Our graduates typically pursue careers in business, government and higher education. We invite you to look at our website for more information, including alumni profiles: http://germanicandslavic.uwaterloo.ca.
