This option highlights a number of general interest courses in Drama, Fine Arts, and Music, and allows students to gain studio and classroom experience in the Fine and Performing Arts.
The Fine and Performing Arts Option is open to all University of Waterloo undergraduate students and may be taken in conjunction with an Honours or General degree.
Requirements
The Fine and Performing Arts Option requires the successful completion of five academic course units (ten courses) with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
- a minimum of one unit from each of the following disciplines: Drama, Fine Arts, and Music
- the remaining units selected from any of the three disciplines
- at least two units must be at the 200-level or above

Elective Courses (to complete a total of five units):
Additional courses in Drama, Fine Arts, Music, or a related area such as Architecture or Recreation, may be taken with the approval of the Option Director, to a total of five units of approved or elective courses. Knowledge of languages and literature is relevant to this option.
*Studio-based courses are practicums with no lectures or written assignments. Students are advised to check with their home department regarding the acceptability of studio courses for credit and the total maximum number allowed.
** Admission subject to audition or placement class.
~Consult the Calendar for admission information. Prerequisites may be waived for students formally registered in the Fine and Performing Arts Option.
Notes:
- Students whose major field of study is Drama, Fine Arts, or Music, may count a maximum of one unit in that discipline toward the option, subject to approval by the home department, with the remaining units to be selected from the other disciplines.
- Students are encouraged to select courses in consultation with the Option Director before entering Year Three.
