Upper-Year Bursaries and Awards

Faculty of Arts

Arts Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund

The Arts Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund makes available funds to assist academically qualified students experiencing financial difficulties. The fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the Province of Ontario. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post secondary education.

Joseph Dumaradzky Memorial Bursary

Bursaries valued at $500 or more, are awarded annually to first- or second-year undergraduate students in the Faculty of Arts who are majoring or minoring in Germanic and Slavic Studies or who are enrolled in a German language course.  Students must have a demonstrated financial need and have a minimum overall average of 65%. Interested full- or part-time students must complete the undergraduate bursary application form.

C. D. Howe Memorial Foundation Bursary for International Trade

Bursaries, valued at up to $2,000 each, are awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled in Year Three or Four of the International Trade Specialization in the Faculty of Arts who are interested in participating in an international work or study experience. Interested students who have demonstrated financial need and who are in good academic standing should submit an application by October 15th. This fund is made possible by a donation from the C. D. Howe Memorial Foundation to recognize Mr. Howe's significant contributions to Canada's economic prosperity.

Nantes/Paris/Chicoutimi Award

Undergraduate students who participate in one of the approved exchange programs between the University of Waterloo and Nantes, Paris, or Chicoutimi are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Nantes Award. Students must have maintained a minimum B overall average and must demonstrate financial need. Applications must be submitted by May 31 each year.

School of Accounting and Finance Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund

The School of Accounting and Finance Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund makes available funds to assist academically qualified students experiencing financial difficulties. The fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the Province of Ontario. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.

Serendipity Bursary

A bursary fund has been established by Samuel Malenfant, Bachelor of Integrated Studies, 1976. The bursary is awarded to a full-time undergraduate registered in Independent Studies.

University of Waterloo Community and World Service Award

Co-op students in the Faculty of Arts who complete a work-term in the service of others, locally, nationally, or abroad with little or no remuneration who demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply for these bursaries, valued at approximately $1,500. Information and applications are available through the Office of the Associate Dean of Arts, Arts Special Programs.

Wescast Industries Continuous Learning Award

An annual award, valued at $1,000, has been established by Wescast Industries Ltd., to recognize academic performance and financial need among students in Accounting and Engineering. To be eligible, candidates must have maintained a 75% minimum average.

Doris R. Zurbrigg Bursary

Bursaries, valued at up to $1500, are awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled in Humanities in the Faculty of Arts who have demonstrated financial need and are in satisfactory academic standing. To be considered, students must complete the University of Waterloo Undergraduate Bursary/Award Application. This fund is made possible by a donation from Doris R. Zurbrigg.  As a young woman in the early 40’s Mrs. Zurbrigg dreamed of attending university, however circumstances and distance stood in the way of her achieving this goal.  By establishing this bursary she hopes to assist students realize their own dreams and goals.
