Upper-Year Bursaries and Awards

Faculty of Applied Health Sciences

Arthur and Gertrude Agajanian Award

An award, valued at up to $400, is awarded annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in Year Two, Three or Four in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences who has achieved a minimum overall average of 75% and who has a demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an interest in the promotion of health of older adults.  Interested students should submit an application by October 15th. This fund is made possible through the generosity of Arthur and Gertrude Agajanian, local Waterloo residents who have demonstrated their commitment to a strong and healthy community by investing in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo.

Applied Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund

The Applied Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Opportunity Trust Fund makes available funds to assist academically qualified students experiencing financial difficulties. The fund is made possible by donations from interested donors and by a matching grant from the Province of Ontario. Eligible students must have resided in Ontario for 12 months prior to the beginning of their post-secondary education.

Ross and Doris Dixon Award

A $1,000 award is presented annually to an outstanding full-time student enrolled in Year Two, Three, or Four in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences who demonstrates financial need. A special application is available from the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office and must be submitted by October 15 each year.

Sunir Sharman Award

This fund has been established by Dr. and Mrs. Sharman to honour and recognize the contributions of their late son, Sunir, who was a student in the Recreation and Leisure Studies program at the University of Waterloo. The award will provide financial assistance to upper-year undergraduate students in the Recreation and Leisure Studies program who have demonstrated financial need. Awards may vary in value from $1,500 to $3,000. Interested students will apply using the University of Waterloo Undergraduate Bursary Application, available from the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office website.

Laura Talbot-Allan Award in Applied Health Sciences

One or more awards, valued at $2,000 each, are awarded annually to outstanding undergraduate students entering fourth-year in a program within the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences who have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an interest in the area of aging through research coursework, and activities related to the projects within the Research Institute for Aging. The award is to encourage the recipients to continue their participation in the Research Institute for Aging program. Interested third- or fourth-year students should apply using a special application no later than October 15th.
