The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences
requires that all students demonstrate competency in writing before
qualifying for a degree. There are no exceptions to this requirement.
Students entering the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences must
- Write the English Language Proficiency Examination by the end of their 1A term.
- Fulfill the writing skills requirement by the end of the 2B term in one of the following ways:
- A grade of 60% or higher on the English Language Proficiency Examination; OR
- Successful
completion of a university level English course with a grade of 60.0%
or better and evidence that graded writing is a component of the mark
in that course. Acceptable UW courses are ESL 102R, ENGL 109, 129R, 140R, 209, any 210 course, and 240R.
- Successful completion of the work assigned by the UW Writing Centre.
ELPE
is written in the first term of a student's first year in the Faculty
of Applied Health Sciences. For further information about ELPE, please
visit http://elpp.uwaterloo.ca/.
Notes:
- Students
can arrange a special sitting of the ELPE outside of the scheduled
dates for an extra administration charge. Contact the Writing Centre
directly.
- Students who have not completed the English
Language Proficiency Requirement by the end of second year will have
their future enrolments cancelled and will be allowed to proceed only
after successful completion of ELPE or Writing Centre.
