Academic Programs/Plans

Combination Honours Academic Plans with other Faculties leading to the BMath or BCS Degree

In the descriptions below, plan "X" refers to any one of Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computational Mathematics, Computer Science, Mathematical Physics, Mathematics/Teaching Option, Operations Research, Pure Mathematics, Scientific Computation/Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematical Sciences. "Z" refers to any discipline, in a faculty other than Mathematics, that makes a combination Honours plan, Minor or Option available to Faculty of Mathematics students. Students should consult with the unit offering "Z" for course requirements.

BSE students should refer to the section on Software Engineering, for descriptions of options that are open to them.

Honours "X" and "Z" Academic Plans

All Honours requirements for plan "X" and the set of departmental requirements and average requirements prescribed by discipline "Z" must be satisfied. Note that with some "X" and "Z" combinations, it may be necessary to complete more than 40 courses (20 units) to satisfy all of the course requirements. Note that "X" = "Mathematical Physics" and "Z" = "Physics" is not an acceptable combination.

Honours "X" with "Z" Minor Academic Plans

All Honours requirements for plan "X" and a set of ten courses (five units) and average requirements prescribed by discipline "Z" must be satisfied.

Honours "X" with "Z" Option Academic Plans

All Honours requirements for plan "X" and a set of courses (usually eight courses or four units) and average requirements prescribed by discipline "Z" must be satisfied.

Note

Combination Honours Academic Plans leading to a degree in another faculty (i.e., not BMath or BCS) are described in "Combination Honours Academic Plans Leading to a Degree in Another Faculty: Requirements."

BMath and BCS Transcripts and Diplomas

Transcripts and diplomas for students in the Faculty of Mathematics list at most two areas of study in the plan section. Each Honours BCS plan, is considered to be a single area of study and may be combined, for example, with a minor or another option. A student who completes the requirements for an additional area of study that cannot be included as part of the student's plan may petition the Mathematics Faculty Standings and Promotions (S&P) Committee, no later than when submitting an "Intention to Graduate-Undergraduate Studies" form, to have a transcript notation added to the graduation term, indicating that those requirements were met. In deciding whether it is appropriate to grant the petition, S&P will assess the overlap in requirements across all areas of study for the student.
