- theoretical research into the mechanical behaviour of particulate materials
- application of geomechanics in petroleum, mining and pavement engineering, numerical simulations, and micromechanics of soils
- experimental and numerical research on soil-structure interaction; flow of multiple fluids through porous media; and trenchless technology
- experimental and numerical work to obtain a fundamental understanding of wave propagation in geo-materials to improve and create new nondestructive testing techniques
