Civil and Environmental Engineering

Graduate study leading to the degree of Master of Engineering (MEng), Master of Applied Science (MASc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) can be undertaken in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Department name changed May 1, 2006 from the Department of Civil Engineering). At present, there are four major areas of study in which specialization may be undertaken:

  • Environmental and Water Resources Engineering
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Structures, Mechanics and Construction Engineering
  • Transportation Engineering

In addition, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering also offers an MEng degree in Nuclear Engineering.

The normal length of time taken to complete the degree of Master of Engineering (MEng) is 4 terms (1 1/3 years), Master of Applied Science (MASc) is 6 terms (2 years) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 12 terms (4 years).

Financial support is available for MASc and PhD students from several sources. Applications for external awards such as those offered by the Government of Ontario (OGS) and NSERC must be made in the fall of the year preceding the one for which support is sought.

Those who wish to be considered for a research position should submit their application by the deadlines listed below. Teaching assistant positions are also available for students who are beyond the first term in their program.
