Its goal is to promote graduate studies at the University of Waterloo, fund basic, applied and interdisciplinary research at the graduate level as well as financially assist graduate students. Students' $20/term contribution (VSC) is divided into two equal amounts. 50% goes into the Capital Fund where it along with $85,000 start-up money and any other donations will earn interest and grow to ensure a long-term improvement and investment in graduate level studies. The remaining 50% goes into an Income Fund to promote graduate studies, fund research and financially assist graduate students. Payment of the contribution is required at time of fee arrangement, but a student who does not wish to participate may obtain a refund by applying at the Graduate House during the refund period at the beginning of each term.
