The following are the amendments that were made to the 2023-2024 Undergraduate Studies Academic Calendar since it was published on February 1, 2023. Note: Typographical or hyperlink corrections are not noted.

March 20, 2023

Academic plan: Indigenous Entrepreneurship Specialization (Bachelor of Sustainability and Financial Management)

  • Edit: ERS 275 (Topic: Indigenous Sustainability Entrepreneurship) was replaced by ERS 200.

May 29, 2023

Academic plan: Chemical Engineering

  • Edit: References to Reflection Milestone and associated reports were removed, as approved at the May 2023 Senate Undergraduate Council meeting.

July 4, 2023

Page: University Jurisdiction

  • Edit: The following clause was added to the first bullet under Access to Academic Programs, Plans, and Courses, as approved at the June 2023 Senate meeting: "the University also reserves the right to cancel and/or change scheduled offerings of a course."

Page: Admissions Fraud

  • Edit: As approved at the June 2023 Senate meeting, the admissions fraud content was added to the Undergraduate Calendar.

Page: Regulated Professions, Engineering and Architecture

  • Edit: The Architecture section was replaced with new wording to reflect updates from the accreditation board.

Page: Invalid Credential Combinations

  • Edit: Clarified that the Liberal Studies major cannot be combined with any other stand-alone Arts major.

Academic plan: Honours International Development

  • Edit: The following statement was added: The School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development is undertaking a comprehensive review of the Bachelor of Environmental Studies in International Development undergraduate plans. As a result, there is a pause on the admittance of new or transfer students. Students currently in these plans should contact the academic advisor for guidance on degree completion.

Page: Glossary of Terms

  • Edit: The definition for a blended class was updated and the definitions for in-person class and online class were added, as approved at the September 2023 Senate meeting:
    • Blended class: A class in which instruction or activity is distributed between scheduled in-person and required online activities, resulting in fewer scheduled in-class hours.
    • In-person class: A class with scheduled instruction or activity occurring in-person.
    • Online class: A class scheduled to be fully online that requires no in-person instruction or activity (may require in-person exam(s)); may be exclusively asynchronous (no scheduled meets), synchronous (scheduled meets), or a combination of the two.

Academic plan: Life Sciences Option

  • Edit: Theme 1 requirement was changed from "CHEM 266 and one of CHEM 262 or NE 222" to "One of CHEM 262, CHEM 266, NE 222".

Page: Admissions Fraud

  • Edit: The following paragraph was added: "The University of Waterloo may verify your letter of acceptance (LOA) for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and may provide information about you if necessary to support the integrity of the study permit application process. By applying for a study permit to attend the University of Waterloo, you authorize the University to validate information about you and your LOA with the IRCC."

Page: Fee Assessment

  • Edit: The following note was added to the Work Report Marking Fee section: "Note: Effective winter 2024, students in Engineering majors, including Software Engineering, will not be charged the work report marking fee."

  • Edit: The definitions for the following course components were updated, as approved at the November 2023 Senate meeting and effective January 1, 2024: Clinic (CLN), Discussion (DIS), Ensemble (ENS), Essay (ESS), Field studies (FLD), Flight (FLT), Lab (LAB), Lecture (LEC), Online activities (OLN), Oral conversation (ORL), Practicum (PRA), Project (PRJ), Reading (RDG), Seminar (SEM), Studio (STU), Test slot (TST), Tutorial (TUT), Work term (WRK), and Workshop (WSP). In addition, the course component for Test Slot - Lecture (TLC) was inactivated.
