Honours Knowledge Integration

Advisors: See Faculty of Environment undergraduate advising.

Honours Knowledge Integration is available in the regular stream of study only.

Continuing in the Honours Knowledge Integration requires a minimum cumulative overall average of 65% (all courses) and a minimum cumulative major average of 70% (all INTEG courses, COMMST 223, PHIL 145, and all courses counted towards the breadth requirements).

For recommended course sequencing and an overview of Bachelor of Knowledge Integration academic and career objectives, see the Department of Knowledge Integration website.

Successful completion requires:

  1. 15.0 units distributed as follows:
    • COMMST 223 Public Speaking
    • INTEG 120 The Art and Science of Learning
    • INTEG 121 Collaboration, Design Thinking, and Problem Solving
    • INTEG 220/PHIL 290 Nature of Scientific Knowledge
    • INTEG 221/PHIL 291 The Social Nature of Knowledge
    • INTEG 230 The Museum Course: Preparation and Field Trip (0.25 unit)
    • INTEG 320 The Museum Course: Research and Design
    • INTEG 321 The Museum Course: Practicum and Presentation (0.75 unit)
    • INTEG 340 Research Design and Methods (see 7: additional conditions)
    • INTEG 420A and INTEG 420B Senior Honours Project (1.5 unit) (see 8: additional conditions)
    • PHIL 145 Critical Thinking
    • 8.5 units: Elective (see 4: additional conditions)
  2. 5.5 units of breadth courses distributed as follows (see 5: additional conditions):

Additional conditions:

  1. If a minimum grade of 65% is achieved in COMMST 223, the Undergraduate Communication Requirement (UCR) milestone will be granted. If the minimum grade is not met, review the Overview of Academic Plan Requirements page and contact the Knowledge Integration academic advisor.
  2. The Environment Academic Regulations section of this Calendar contains information, regulations, and requirements pertaining to undergraduate studies within the Faculty. It is students' responsibility to familiarize themselves with the content of this section.
  3. Knowledge Integration students are required to have at least 13.5 units at or above 200-level to meet Bachelor of Knowledge Integration (BKI) degree requirements.
  4. 1.0 lab units may be counted towards the BKI degree.
  5. Students are required to complete 11 (5.5 units) breadth courses to meet Bachelor of Knowledge Integration (BKI) degree requirements. See the Knowledge Integration web page for guidance on breadth courses, including suggested courses for Year One and Year Two.
    • For the Natural/Physical Sciences breadth requirement, students must successfully complete courses that include a hands-on investigative component such as field study or lab. Corresponding labs must be taken and passed but do not count toward the 1.0 unit Natural/Physical Sciences breadth requirement. For example, KIN 100 Regional Human Anatomy (0.5 unit) and its corresponding KIN 100L Regional Human Anatomy Laboratory (0.25 unit) count as one course (0.5 unit) for the purposes of satisfying the Natural/Physical Sciences breadth requirement.
    • In exceptional cases, students may petition to have a course count towards a breadth course requirement that is not listed above. In particular, students transferring from other academic plans or pursuing Joint Honours may find that some of their courses may meet breadth course requirements. Students considering these options should consult with the Knowledge Integration academic advisor.
  6. INTEG 10 (0.0 unit) is a seminar course taken by Knowledge Integration Students only. This seminar course should appear on a student's schedule of classes every term.
  7. INTEG 340 can be substituted with an alternative research methods course with approval from the associate chair, undergraduate studies, Knowledge Integration.
  8. Students completing a joint major or concurrent degree that includes an equivalent senior research project may request that the associate chair, undergraduate studies, Knowledge Integration approve the associated courses as equivalent to INTEG 420A and INTEG 420B. Note that there may be additional requirements involved in such an arrangement, which is required to be formally organized in advance of taking the equivalent course sequence.
