Arts Degree Requirements

Bachelor of Arts

Concurrent Bachelor of Arts Degree

University of Waterloo students pursuing programs in faculties other than Arts may wish to work concurrently toward a Bachelor of Arts (BA). Following consultation with the Arts manager - academic advising and the academic advisor of the home faculty, the student must successfully complete the following to be awarded the BA:

  1. All program-level (BA) requirements of the Faculty of Arts (see Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements), and
  2. All plan-level (major) requirements for the chosen Arts academic plan, and
  3. At least 7.5 academic course units (for the Three-Year General degree) or 10 academic course units (for the Four-Year General or Honours degree) over and above the minimum number of courses required for the first degree in the home faculty.
  4. Degree requirements for both programs prior to graduating with both degrees.

In some instances, a joint honours program or a minor in an Arts discipline may be a preferable path to follow, in which case the BA would not be granted. The Proposal for Concurrent Degree in Arts: BA as Second Degree form is available from, and must be approved by, the Arts Undergraduate Office.

Students must see their Arts academic advisor and their home faculty academic advisor each term to confirm their academic standings in both programs.
