Honours Biomedical Sciences is only available in the regular system of study.
It prepares graduates for entry into a comprehensive array of professional programs in the health care field, offering core subjects common for the majority of them. These are supplemented with a significant number of elective courses, allowing students to tailor their degree to meet the admission requirements for studies in optometry, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, forensics, radiotherapy, or health discipline graduate studies.
Continuing in Honours Biomedical Sciences requires a minimum cumulative overall average of 60% and a minimum cumulative Science average of 65%.
Successful completion requires:
22.5 units that include:
- 5.75 BIOL units: BIOL 130, BIOL 130L, BIOL 201, BIOL 239, BIOL 240, BIOL 240L, BIOL 241, BIOL 273, BIOL 302, BIOL 303, BIOL 308, BIOL 373, BIOL 373L
- 3.75 CHEM units: CHEM 120, CHEM 120L, CHEM 123, CHEM 123L, CHEM 237, CHEM 237L, CHEM 266, CHEM 266L, CHEM 267, CHEM 267L

- 0.5 ENGL unit: ENGL 193/SPCOM 193
Additional conditions:
- A minimum of 2.5 elective units must be 400-level, of which 1.0 unit must be a BIOL unit.
- A maximum of 3.0 SCI units may be counted.
- A failed second attempt of a required course will result in removal from this plan (see Faculty of Science policy on repeating courses). Readmission requires a successful petition.
Notes
- Science elective units include BIOL, CHEM, EARTH, PHYS, SCI.
- Students should consult the admission requirements for professional schools of interest to aid in the selection of elective courses.
- Students should note that higher averages than those required to continue in Biomedical Sciences will normally be needed to enter many professional or graduate programs.
- Students should be aware that health profession programs often require courses in one or more of the following subject areas: English, mathematics, computer science, sociology, accounting, economics, languages, psychology, philosophy, humanities.
- Students should note that PSYCH 261 cannot count towards the 2.0 units of required program electives if they are pursuing both a Medical Physiology Minor and a Psychology Minor.
- BIOL 361 is a recommended elective.
