Repeating and Counting of Courses

When courses are taken twice but passed once, both grades are included in average calculations regardless of whether the failure occurred on the first or subsequent registration. In such cases, both a credit and a failure are recorded. In instances where a passed course is repeated, and passed again, it will not receive credit and will not count in the average.

Only some Science plans allow third attempts in previously failed courses. Those that do not allow a third attempt indicate this in their academic plan. Fourth attempts are not permitted.

University of Waterloo rules govern how many times a course can be counted across multiple plans. Students uncertain of the counting or repeating rules for their program/plan combination should contact an academic advisor.
