The Faculty of Science Biomedical Sciences academic plan prepares graduates for entry into a comprehensive array of professional programs in the health care field. Core subjects are offered that are common for the majority of professional programs. These are supplemented with a significant number of elective courses, allowing students to tailor their program to meet the admission requirements for programs in optometry, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, forensics, radiotherapy, or health discipline graduate studies.
Continuing in the Biomedical Sciences program requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Science average of 65%.
Successful completion of this program requires:
22.5 units that include:
- 5.75 BIOL units: BIOL 130, BIOL 130L, BIOL 239, BIOL 240, BIOL 240L, BIOL 241, BIOL 273, BIOL 301, BIOL 302, BIOL 303, BIOL 308, BIOL 373, and BIOL 373L

- A maximum of 3.0 SCI units may be counted towards this degree.
- A failed second attempt of a required course will result in removal from the program.
Notes
- Science elective units include BIOL, CHEM, EARTH, PHYS, or SCI.
- Students should consult the admission requirements for professional schools of interest to aid in the selection of elective courses.
- Students should note that higher averages than those required to continue in the Biomedical Sciences program will normally be needed to enter many professional or graduate programs.
- Students should be aware that health profession programs often require courses in one or more of the following subject areas: English, mathematics, computer science, sociology, accounting, economics, languages, psychology, philosophy, humanities.
