Science Minors and Joint Programs

Joint Honours Arts Major and Science (Bachelor of Arts)
In order to earn this degree, a student must complete all of the requirements for an Honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) plus the following requirements for the Faculty of Science with a minimum average of 60% in the required Science and Mathematics courses.
  1. 7.0 lecture units distributed as follows:
    • 1.0 Mathematics unit chosen from ACTSC, AMATH, CO, CS, or PMATH, STAT, MATH
    • 6.0 Science units chosen from: BIOL, CHEM, EARTH, MNS, PHYS or SCI courses with the following conditions:
      • 1.0 unit must complete one Year One sequence
      • 1.0 unit must complete a different Year One sequence
      • Units exclusive of those completing Year One sequences must be 200-level or higher
  2. All labs associated with Year One Science sequences.

Additional Program Conditions

  1. Year One sequences are chosen from:
  2. SCI 237 and MATH 103 do not count towards the degree.
  3. SCI 250 does not count towards the Science units.
  4. A maximum of 1.0 SCI unit counts towards the Science units.
  5. CS 100, MTHEL, and COMM courses do not count towards the Mathematics unit.

Notes

  1. Upper-year courses with separate labs do not require the completion of the labs, unless they are corequisites.
  2. Students enrolled in a Joint Honours Arts Major and Science (BA) plan can earn a minor in any of the science subjects (e.g., BA, Honours X and Science - Biology Minor).
  3. Plan Modification Forms for this plan are normally only reviewed after introductory Science and Math courses have been completed with the necessary averages.
