In addition to existing explicit Joint Honours plans, many Honours plans may be combined within and between Faculties. However, before embarking on a Joint Honours plan, students are required to consult with the Undergraduate Advisors of both programs. Students must meet the requirements of both plans as stated in the Calendar and should be aware that combining some Honours plans may require more than the normal number of academic terms to complete. See List of Advisors.
Joint Honours X with Biology
Admission into this plan requires an overall average of 65% in the student's home academic plan. Continuation within the Joint plan is contingent upon maintaining an overall average of 60% in BIOL courses, as well as meeting the requirements of their home faculty academic plan.
The successful completion of the Joint Honours X with Biology plan requires the following:
- CHEM 120, 120L, 123, 123L (or their equivalents)
- 6.5 Biology lecture units (13 courses) excluding BIOL 112;
- 4.0 Biology units (8 courses) must be at the 300- or 400-level.
Note:
Students may elect to substitute 0.5 or 1.0 Biology unit, at the 200-level with CHEM 266/266L and CHEM 237/237L, provided that they are not required courses in their home department/faculty academic plan.
Any Biology course required for a student's home department/faculty academic plan cannot be counted towards completion of the Biology Joint Honours plan. If a student's home academic plan includes CHEM 120, 120L and CHEM 123,123L as required courses 7.5 Biology units (15 courses) will be required to complete the Joint Honours X with Biology plan.
Joint Honours X with Chemistry
Admission into this plan requires an overall average of 65% in the student's home academic plan. Continuation within this plan is contingent upon maintaining an overall average of 60% in the required CHEM courses, as well as meeting the requirements of their home faculty academic plan.
The successful completion of the Joint Honours X with Chemistry plan requires the following:
- CHEM 120, 120L, 123, 123L (or equivalents)
- CHEM 140, 209
- Any two of the following sequences:
- CHEM 212, 310, 310L, 313, 313L
Note: For these sequences, students are advised to take first-year Calculus (e.g. MATH 127, 128) and first-year Physics (e.g. PHYS 111 or 121; and PHYS 112 or 122).
- CHEM 220, 220L, 221, 224L, 323
- CHEM 233, 331, 335L, 357
Note: For this sequence students must also choose the last sequence because CHEM 264 and 265 are prerequisites for CHEM 233 and 331, respectively.
- CHEM 250L, 254, 350, 350L, 356
Note: For these sequences, students are advised to take first-year Calculus (e.g. MATH 127, 128) and first-year Physics (e.g. PHYS 111 or 121; and PHYS 112 or 122).
- CHEM 264, 265, 265L, 360, 360L
- Five additional 300- or 400-level Chemistry courses
Joint Honours X with Earth Sciences
Admission into this plan requires an overall 65% in the student's home academic plan. Continuation within this plan is contingent upon maintaining an overall average of 60% in the required EARTH courses, as well as meeting the requirements of their home faculty academic plan.
Note:
This joint plan is not open to students enrolled in Geological
Engineering. Any EARTH course required for a student's home
department/faculty plan cannot be counted towards completion of the
Joint Honours with Earth Sciences plan. If a student's home academic
plan requires any of the non-EARTH courses, listed above, additional
courses must be taken as substitutes and must be approved by an Earth
Sciences advisor.
The successful completion of the Joint Hnours X with Earth Sciences plan requires the following:
- EARTH 121, 121L, 122, 122L
- PHYS 111,111L or PHYS 121, 121L
- CHEM 120, 120L, 123, 123L (or equivalents)
- MATH 127 (or equivalent)
- STAT 202 (or equivalent)
- Three of EARTH 123, 221, 231, 232, 235, 238, 260 (1.5 units)
- Two additional 200-level Earth Sciences electives (1.0 unit)
- Two 200-level or higher Earth Sciences electives (1.0 unit)
- Six EARTH 300- or 400-level electives (3.0 units)
Joint Honours X with Physics
Admission into this plan requires an overall average of 65% in the student's home academic plan. Continuation within this plan is contingent upon maintaining an overall average of 60% in the required PHYS courses, as well as meeting the requirements of their home faculty academic plan. In addition, students must have an average of at least 65% in the lecture courses PHYS 121, 122, 124, MATH 114, 127, 128 (or equivalents) in order to continue in this joint plan.
The successful completion of the Joint Honours X with Physics plan requires the following:
- MATH 114, 127, 128, 227, 228 , (or equivalents)
- PHYS 121, 131L, 122, 124, 132L, 232L, 234, 236, 242, 242L, 256, 256L, 260L, 263, 334, 342, 358, 359, 360A, 363, 364, 365
- One 300- or 400-level Physics elective lab (0.25)
