Russian and East European Studies

Russian and East European Studies - Overview

Our program in Russian and East European Studies (REES) within the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies emphasizes core competency in Russian, and provides a broad exposure to the cultures of Slavic Europe. In addition to language instruction, which includes Russian as well as Polish and Croatian, the department offers courses in culture, literature, and linguistics, taught in Russian and/or English. The unique interdisciplinary nature of the program is stressed by the fact that some courses which count toward the REES degree are offered by other departments such as Economics, Fine Arts, History, and Political Science. Students are encouraged to spend part of their studies in a Slavic-speaking country.

Our graduates typically pursue careers in business, government, and higher education. We invite you to visit the Germanic and Slavic Studies website for more information, including alumni profiles.
