Advanced Placement
The University of Waterloo accepts Advanced Placement (AP) courses as the equivalent of Ontario Grade 12 U courses. The Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Arts, Environment, Mathematics, and Science recognize AP final examination results and will consider awarding transfer credits for AP courses in which a minimum final grade of 4 is attained. The maximum number of transfer credits varies depending on the program to which the student is admitted. Transfer credits will normally be weighted as 0.5 units each (equivalent to one term course). "British" System of Education
The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or equivalent with passes in at least five subjects, two of which must be at the Advanced Level, is the minimum requirement for admission consideration. The Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Arts, Environment, Mathematics, and Science recognize A-Level courses as excellent academic preparation for success at the university level and will consider awarding transfer credits for A-Level courses normally in which a minimum final grade of B is attained. The maximum number of transfer credits varies depending on the program to which the student is admitted. Transfer credits will normally be weighted as 1.0 unit each (equivalent to two term courses). Caribbean System
The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent with passes in at least five subjects, two of which must be at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exam (CAPE) Unit 2 Level, is the minimum requirement for admission consideration. The Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Arts, Environment, Mathematics, and Science recognize CAPE Unit 2 Level courses as excellent academic preparation for success at the university level and will consider awarding transfer credits for CAPE Unit 2 Level courses normally in which a minimum final grade of 2 is attained. The maximum number of transfer credits varies depending on the program to which the student is admitted. Transfer credits will normally be weighted as 1.0 unit each (equivalent to two term courses). International Baccalaureate
The University of Waterloo accepts the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma as a basis for admission to undergraduate studies. The minimum required for admission consideration is an overall grade total of 28, excluding Diploma points. More competitive programs generally require higher minimum grade totals. Subjects that are prerequisites for admission to specific programs should be completed at the Higher Level wherever possible. Where there are more than three prerequisite subjects, Standard Level courses will be accepted. For Engineering, Science and Accounting and Financial Management programs, Higher Level Mathematics is strongly recommended. For Engineering and Software Engineering, Higher Level Physics is also recommended. For Mathematics and Software Engineering, Higher Level Mathematics is required. A minimum grade of 5 in Standard Level English A1 or a of 4 in Higher Level English A1 must be attained for all applicants to the School of Architecture or to programs within the Faculties of Arts and Environment.
