Fine Arts

Fine Arts - Overview and Admission

The Department of Fine Arts offers major and minor academic plans in Studio, Art History and Visual Culture, and Film Studies and Visual Culture. 

Admission to all Studio academic plans requires successful completion of:

  • FINE 100, 112;
  • a portfolio review of work done in FINE 100 (normally at the end of the 1A term); and
  • at least one 200-level studio course (normally taken in the 1B term).
  • Successful completion of VCULT 101 in the first year will also be an asset, although students can take this course in their second year.

Notes:

  1. Due to limitations of resources, fulfillment of these minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee admission to Fine Arts Studio academic plans.
  2. Students should be aware that many studio courses include a significant component of mandatory study from the live nude model. 

Admission to the Art History and Visual Culture academic plans requires successful completion of:

Admission to the Film Studies and Visual Culture academic plans requires successful completion of:

  • VCULT 100; and
  • at least one other FINE film studies course.

Students are highly encouraged to enrol in the Fine Arts Professional Practice Specialization and/or the Fine Arts – Teaching Preparation Specialization, as well as take advantage of the several Fine Arts Professional Development opportunities to enrich their academic and professional profile.
