The Speech Communication Option requires successful completion of a minimum of four academic course units (eight courses) in Speech Communication core and approved courses with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
- SPCOM 100, 223
- two courses (one course in each of two areas of concentration):
- Intercultural Communication: SPCOM 226, 401, 402, 404
- Interpersonal and Organizational Communication: SPCOM 325, 432, 433, 475
- Performance Studies: SPCOM 102, 220, 326, 440
- Public and Digital Communication: SPCOM 228, 300, 323, 329, 400, 403, 420, 430, 431, 434
- four approved courses (two courses each from two areas of concentration to match the chosen Speech Communication areas of concentration):

Notes:
- Students must declare their two areas of concentration with the department undergraduate advisor at the end of their 1B term.
- Students in the Speech Communication Minor or Option academic plans may double count no more than two courses from Speech Communication Approved Courses toward their Major plan and the Minor or Option plan.
- Consultation with the department undergraduate advisor is highly recommended to ensure that students can fulfill all the academic plan requirements during the terms that they are on campus.
