Students enrolled in any Honours or Four-Year General academic plan, other than Spanish, may pursue the Latin American Literatures and Cultures Option, which is designed for students who have a desire to explore in depth the literary and cultural production of Latin America.
Students will closely examine the literatures and cultures of Latin America from pre-Columbian times to the present. The analysis of individual works will be grounded in a deep understanding of their historicity. Students will become acquainted with the major trends in literary and cultural criticism, while developing strong research skills at the same time.
Requirements
The Latin American Literatures and Cultures Option requires successful completion of five academic course units (ten courses) with a minimum cumulative average of 70%, including:
- one of SPAN 217, 218
- two of SPAN 400, 410, 430, 497
- seven additional courses from the following: SPAN 217, 218, 227, 228, 333, 334, 366, 387, 388, 400, 410, 430, 497
