Science and Business

As technological developments are introduced at an ever-increasing pace, there is a demand for individuals with a strong foundation in science and its implementation in the world of business and government. Decision makers often need to appreciate the underlying scientific issues as well as the economic ramifications of their decisions.

Science and Business is interdisciplinary, and designed to produce a pool of multifaceted graduates equipped with a unique blend of knowledge in science technology and business, as well as information technology, creative problem solving and decision making skills. It is designed to prepare students for a career in management in the technology-intensive global market place.

These Plans are offered in Co-operative and Regular systems of study:

Co-operative and Regular Science and Business (No Specialization)
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Biology
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Biochemistry
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Biotechnology
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Chemistry
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Hydrogeology
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Environmental Sciences
Co-operative and Regular Science and Business/Physics

The Science and Business Plans can be taken in the regular system of study. Please consult with the Advisor regarding course sequencing.

Students must maintain a cumulative overall average of 65% in both Science and non-Science courses in order to be eligible to continue.

In order to graduate in Honours Science and Business the following requirements must be met:

  1. Successful completion of at least 21.5 units with cumulative averages of 65% in Science courses (excluding “SCBUS”-labelled courses) and a cumulative average of 65% overall (including “SCBUS”-labelled courses). Of the 21.5 units required:
    • Core Science units, of which 2.5 are "SCBUS"-labelled units. Science specific requirements are given for each of the Plans offered above.
    • 0.5 unit of computer science as specified.
    • 6.0 – 7.0 units of Business (including 0.5 unit of Statistics). "Business" normally includes ACTSC, AFM, ECON, STAT, HRM, and MSCI.
  2. Normally no more than 2.5 "SCBUS"-labelled units.
  3. No more than 2.0 failed units are allowed.
  4. Completion of the English language Proficiency Examination (ELPE).
