About Social Work

Admission

Admission requirements include the successful completion of either a three-year or four-year undergraduate University degree (Bachelor of Arts or equivalent) with a B average and at least 6.0 units in the social sciences, including ten required prerequisite courses or their equivalents. Qualified applicants who possess a Bachelor of Arts degree (or equivalent), but who lack one or more of the prerequisite courses for admission to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program, may be eligible for Conditional Admission to the full-time or part-time program.

Successful conditional admission applicants will be given admission to the next available entry point to the Bachelor of Social Work program, conditional on successful completion of the following prerequisite courses with grades of at least 75%.

Entrance to the full-time program must be for the full academic year beginning in September. Entrance to the part-time program is available for September and January entry points.

Note: Applicants who have taken courses equivalent to the required prerequisite courses should submit all documentation for course equivalency evaluation, including official transcripts and full course outlines to: Marion Reid.

Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient work and/or volunteer experience in the social services and personal suitability as evidenced by letters of reference and a personal statement. Application Deadlines 

Full-time Program (Ten-month format)

All applicants are required to submit an application for admission to the School of Social Work at Renison. This application along with all supporting documents must be received at Renison no later than January 30, 2009 for Fall 2009 admission. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications earlier than the stated deadlines.

Applicants who are external to the University of Waterloo (i.e. have not been a student at the University of Waterloo) must also submit an application for admission to the University of Waterloo. This application is submitted through OUAC and should be received no later than December 31, 2008 for Fall 2009 admission.

Part-time Program (Three-year format)

All applicants are required to submit an application for admission to the School of Social Work at Renison. This application along with all supporting documents must be received at Renison no later than by March 30, 2008 for Fall 2008 admission, September 9, 2008 for January 2009 admission and March 2009 for Fall 2009 admission. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications earlier than the stated deadlines. 

Applicants external to the University of Waterloo (i.e. have not been a student at the University of Waterloo) must also submit an application for admission to the University of Waterloo. This application is submitted through OUAC by way of Distance Education and Part-time Studies and should be received by OUAC no later than June 30, 2008 for Fall 2008 admission, November 1, 2008 for Winter 2009 admission and June 30, 2009 for Fall 2009 admission.
