Russian and East European Studies

Russian and East European Studies - Overview

The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies offers the following Academic Plans in Russian and East European Studies.

Three-Year General Russian and East European Studies

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Russian and East European Studies average of 65%.

Eligibility for graduation in the Three-Year General Russian and East European Studies academic plan includes successful fulfilment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate BA Program-level requirements. See "BA Degree Requirements."
  2. Russian and East European Studies Plan-level requirements:
    • at least six academic course units (12 courses) must be in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:

Four-Year General Russian and East European Studies

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Russian and East European Studies average of 65%.

Eligibility for graduation in the Four-Year General academic plan in Russian and East European Studies includes successful fulfilment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate BA Program-level requirements. See "BA Degree Requirements."
  2. Russian and East European Studies Plan-level requirements:
    • at least ten academic course units (20 courses) must be in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
    • Participation in a study abroad program at a Russian-speaking university. Consult with the Undergraduate Officer for details on suitable study abroad programs.

Honours Russian and East European Studies

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Russian and East European Studies average of 75%.

Eligibility for graduation in the Honours Russian and East European Studies academic plan includes successful fulfilment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate BA Program-level requirements. See "BA Degree Requirements."
  2. Russian and East European Studies Plan-level requirements:
    • at least ten academic course units (20 courses) must be in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, including:
    • Participation in a study abroad program at a Russian-speaking university. Consult with the Undergraduate Officer for details on suitable study abroad programs.

Honours Russian and East European Studies (Arts and Business Co-op and Regular)

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Russian and East European Studies average of 75%.

Eligibility for graduation in Honours Russian and East European Studies with Arts and Business includes successful fulfilment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate BA Program-level requirements. See "BA Degree Requirements."
  2. Russian and East European Studies Plan-level requirements:
    • at least eight academic course units (16 courses) must be in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, including:
    • Participation in a study abroad program at a Russian-speaking university is strongly encouraged. Consult with the Undergraduate Officer for details on suitable study abroad programs.
  3. Successful completion of Arts and Business requirements.

Joint Honours Russian and East European Studies

A Joint Honours academic plan with Russian and East European Studies may be taken in combination with most Arts disciplines in which an Honours academic plan is offered or with many Honours majors in other Faculties. See the department for the most recent list of approved combinations.

Continuation in this academic plan requires a cumulative overall average of 60% and a cumulative Russian and East European Studies average of 75%.

Eligibility for graduation in the Joint Honours Russian and East European Studies academic plan includes fulfilment of the following requirements:

  1. Appropriate Program-level requirements for the Home Faculty, including at least 20 academic course units. If the Home Faculty is Arts, see "BA Degree Requirements."
  2. Russian and East European Studies Plan-level requirements:
    • at least eight academic course units (16 courses) must be in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 75%, including:
    • Participation in a study abroad program at a Russian-speaking university is strongly encouraged. Consult with the Undergraduate Officer for details on suitable study abroad programs.
  3. Plan-level requirements for the second Major.

Russian and East European Studies Minor

Students of all departments may elect Russian and East European Studies as a minor field of studies in consultation with the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. The Russian and East European Studies Minor requires the successful completion of a minimum of five academic course units (ten courses) in Russian and East European Studies (courses designated CROAT, POLSH, REES, and RUSS, and courses on the List of Approved Courses), with a minimum cumulative average of 65%, including:
